The sentiero dei Contrabbandieri (Path of the Smugglers), also known as Tracciolino or mountaineering route Massimo Torti, it is a ledge not equipped overlooking Lake Garda, between Riva del Garda and Limone, which retraces the ancient path of the salt and tobacco smugglers. We will venture up those vertical walls over Lake Garda protected with steel cables and carabiners evoking the lives of those fearless men.

We will start from the car park with the statue of the Regina Mundi along the road that leads up to Pregasina. We will do a round trip, first we will do a 15-minute walk on the paved road and then we will go down on a steep path that leads to the rock wall.

We will walk on the ledge, hooked by steel cables, bolts, carabiners and some trees. This trail alternates between some hiking sections, via ferrata and breath-taking cliffs: we start with a traverse on a climbing sling using a steel cable, then a walk on a timeworn log probably left by some smuggler many years ago. After that we will face a ladder downhill and some more exposed sections of the ledge.

When it looks like the adventure has come to its end, right there we will find another traverse of via ferrata on a 50-metre long steel cable! This hiking trail is of medium difficulty with some exposed and demanding sections.

You will be able to enjoy a wonderful and unique view from the ledge that can’t be seen in any other way. The amazing Sentiero dei Contrabbandieri is suitable for daring hikers who are not afraid of heights.
