Toubkal Trekking Program

Day 1 – Arrival in Marrakech

  • City tour depending on the flight arrival time
  • Dinner
  • Overnight in hotel

Day 2 – Marrakech – Imlil – Tacheddirt

  • Departure from Marrakech after breakfast
  • Transfer to Imlil via Asni, a Berber village and the trekking starting point
  • Meeting the team and loading the mules
  • Start walking along the valley towards Tacheddirt (about 8 km)
  • Ascent to the Tizi n’Tamatert pass (2,279 m)
  • Descent to the village of Ouaneskra, then walk to Tacheddirt (3,000 m)
  • Overnight camping near the river

Day 3 – Tacheddirt – Azib Likemt

  • Crossing the valley and starting the long climb to the Tizi Likemt pass (3,555 m)
  • Challenging ascent on rocky terrain
  • View of the Toubkal massif from the top of the pass
  • Descent to the village of Azib Likemt
  • Camping and overnight stay

Day 4 – Azib Likemt – Tizi n’Ourai – Amsouzert

  • Easier but long day
  • Ascent to the Tizi n’Ououraine pass (3,120 m)
  • Panorama of the Toubkal summit, east face, and Dome Ifni (3,876 m)
  • Descent to the village of Amsouzert
  • Overnight in a traditional Berber house

Day 5 – Amsouzert – Ifni Lake

  • Walk through small Berber villages west of Amsouzert
  • Arrival at Ifni Lake, the only lake in the massif, deep and surrounded by mountains
  • Free afternoon to relax on the lake shore
  • Overnight camping nearby

Day 6 – Ifni Lake – Nelter Refuge

  • Most challenging day of the trek
  • Ascent on scree slopes to the Tizi n’Ouanoums pass (3,664 m)
  • Narrow passage between rocky walls
  • Zig-zag descent to Nelter Refuge, at the foot of Toubkal
  • Overnight at the refuge

Day 7 – Toubkal Refuge – Toubkal Summit – Imlil – Marrakech

  • Early departure (around 6:00 AM)
  • About 3-hour ascent to the Toubkal summit (4,167 m), highest peak in North Africa
  • Descent to the refuge for a packed lunch
  • Continue descending towards the Sidi Chamharouch sanctuary
  • Return to Imlil and transfer to Marrakech in the afternoon
  • City visit

Day 8 – Marrakech – Home

  • City visit and departure depending on flight times
